Karolinger Radwanderweg
Duration: 2 hours 20 min. / approx 35 km / Surface: asphalt, gravel / 215 m difference in altitude
Cycling route: Pörtschach – Stallhofen – Knasweg – Nasweg – Kl. St. Veit – Tigring – St. Peter – Moosburg – Stallhofen – Sekull – Töschling – Pörtschach
This is cycling route is very interesting from different perspectives. On the one hand, you explore the lovely scenery, on the other hand, you learn a lot about the history of this region. You start in Pörtschach and cycle to Moosburg. At the golf course you leave the main road and take a quiet road that leads along the edge of the forest to Naßweg. On the way to Kl. St. Veit you will find a lot of nice spots, offering a great view of the beautiful landscape with Lake Tigringer See and the Karawanken mountain range. Passing Tigring Castle you will find the first testimonials of the Karolinger dynasty, which invite you to pause for a moment. In Moosburg you should not miss the opportunity to visit the castle and the museum. To return to Pörtschach you pass the golf course and cycling along the main road.
Forstsee
Duration: 1 hour 17 min. (from Velden) / approx. 17 km / Surface: asphalt (wenig Schotter) / 306 m difference in altitude
Cycling route: Pörtschach - Velden – Kranzlhofen – Kerschdorf – Ebenfeld – Trabenig – Forstsee – Saag – Pörtschach
Precisely the right tour for anyone in search of a sportier challenge and a ride that demands more stamina, plus switching gears on a regular basis, since the stretch to Kerschdorf demands more than a little leg strength. However, the beautiful location of the Forstsee will quickly have you forgetting all of the effort. After a – presumably – lengthy break, we will then continue downhill and coast along the north shore of the Wörthersee back to Pörtschach.
Cycling around Mt. Kathreinkogel
Duration: 1.5 hours / 168 m difference in altitude / Surface: asphalt, gravel / approx. 20 km
Cycling route: Pörtschach – Velden – Selpritsch – Latschach – Pulpitsch – St. Egyden – Schiefling – Velden - Pörtschach
On this tour you can follow the tracks of the Romans – an adventure for the whole family. After you have reached the plain of Latschach you cycle along the river Drau and enjoy a fantastic view of the Karawanken Mountain range as well as of the villages of St. Jakob and St. Egyden. You can leave your bikes at the Gasthof Kreuzwirt in St. Egyden to walk up to Mt. Kathreinkogel. To return to Velden you can either pass Schiefling or you can cycle uphill to Penken to visit the idyllic Lake Penkensee, a hidden natural gem. Then you cycle back from Velden to Pörtschach.
