Velden – Reifnitz
Starting point: Landing stage in Velden
You start at the landing stage Velden, opposite the Schlosshotel, and follow the blue-white-blue stripes, marking the Lake Wörthersee Circular Hiking Trail. At the youth hostel Cap Wörth, you turn right to follow the trail, running mainly through dense forests and beautiful meadows until you get to the Trattnigteich, a lovely pond and the perfect place for a short break. Then, you follow the trail to the wayside shrine Teixlkreuz where you turn right again. From there, the more challenging part of the route starts. You have to walk uphill to reach Mt. Pyramidenkogel. To reach the top of the observations tower you take the elevator. The observation decks offer a fantastic view of the mountain ranges in Carinthia, Slovenia and Italy as well as of the lakes of the Wörthersee region. On your way back to the landing stage in Reifnitz you will pass the picturesque church of St. Anna. By boat you will return to Velden.
Walking time: 5 hours, 500 m difference in altitude, approx. 18 km
Difficulty: moderate

Forstsee – Lake Forstsee (Velden)
Starting point: at the Franzosenkirche (church) in Velden
Starting at the church Franzosenkirche you take the hiking trail n°1 which runs along the Römerschlucht gorge. Until you get to the Römerbrücke (Romans Bridge) you have to overcome a slight ascent, by walking along the streamlet. At the bridge you turn right and follow the hiking trail to Lake Forstsee. Just before getting to this idyllic lake, you will come to a lovely lookout point, offering a fantastic view of Velden, Lake Wörthersee and the Karawanken mountain range. While hiking along the lake you fill find out that this is a man-made lake. Together with the Forstsee power plant (still in operation when necessary), it is the oldest reservoir power station in Austria (built from 1923 to 1925). To return to the starting point you follow the hiking trail n° 1.
